“Can we create a luxury car to challenge the very best?”
This was the question then-chairman Eiji Toyoda asked his management, strategists and engineers in a top secret meeting in 1983. While many doubted they could, six years later, the first Lexus arrived in Long Beach, California.
In that six-year development process, every detail in the LS was carefully considered, designed, and refined. The aim was to give birth to the most impressive vehicle that the automobile world had ever seen.
The team made no compromises. They crafted a sedan with high performance yet great fuel efficiency; plush comfort yet nimble handling – it checked all the boxes. The result is a flagship luxury sedan that leads the Lexus brand and shines in the performance luxury sedan category.
A BRIGHT FUTURE
If a look to the past is any indication of the future, it is clear that the LS is in for a bright future indeed. It has led its class in terms of safety, technology, in-car entertainment, and other innovations, and was one of the first premium luxury sedans to be propelled by a hybrid drivetrain.
The latest LS led the way by introducing a dozen world-first features. These include an adaptive high-beam technology, infrared-ray matrix air conditioning sensors of all seats, a pre-collision system, Mark Levinson surround sound and more.
The LS will only continue to be refined, improved, and crafted into the future. It will remain a vehicle that challenges, pushes, and even surpasses the very best, as Eiji Toyoda had hoped, nearly 40 years ago.
